Touch of Tartan & Tiaras Ball

Guests of Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer enjoyed the Touch of Tartan & Tiara’s Ball held on Happy St Andrews Day at Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel. The event raised an amazing £4,000 for Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Following a Champagne reception kindly sponsored by Chateaux Wines, the evening was an opportunity to raise funds and celebrate the great work of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Professor Anthony Howell, former director of the Manchester Breast Centre and Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Unit highlighted some of pioneering research that the money raised is funding.

Patrons of the charity, Laurence and Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen, raised excitement and led the auction to ensure that the best prices were achieved for the very generous and unique sponsored auction items, supported by award winning comedienne Cerys Nelmes. The party then danced until the early hours to the fantastic Manhattan Nights band.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with around 50,000 women and around 400 men diagnosed each year. It is thought to be caused by a combination of genes, lifestyles and life choices, and things in our surrounding environment. Guests were urged to remember the Breakthrough TLC mantra ‘Touch Look Check’ as the earlier breast cancer is diagnosed the better the chances of beating it. The diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is improving all the time and we are now seeing more women than ever surviving the disease. Five out of six women diagnosed with breast cancer survive for at least five years.

Sadly the founder of Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Eira Hooper was not one of the lucky ones. When she was diagnosed with this hideous disease in 2005 she decided with her friend Amanda Homan-Green to do something positive to help create a future free from the fear of breast cancer for their daughters and future generations.  Glasses were raised in memory of all those lost to this disease, and together they continue the fight that Eira started.

This is the 8th year of Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer who  have had a busy year fundraising. Thanks were given to the wonderful and dedicated patrons (Laurence & Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen) and committee members (Cheryl & David Miller, Justine Reynolds, Jan North, Ann Smith, Veronique Kennedy, Anne-Sophie Collard, Liz Cannon-Fuller, Jerry and Amanda Homan-Green) who all volunteer their time tirelessly and without whom none of this would be possible. Thanks to all who supported this charity.

Glamorous Garden Party & Secret Garden Sale

The fabulous patrons of Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Laurence and Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen, kindly welcomed supporters of the charity to their Glamorous Garden Party at their home in Siddington, Gloucestershire on Friday 5th July.

This event was well attended on what proved to be beautiful balmy summer's evening. Celebration gin cocktails, kindly sponsored by Whitley Neill and Bottle Green, were served in vintage china teacups kindly supplied by Lavinia's Tea Party. A delicious selection of scrumptious canapes were provided by Le Beaujolais Restaurant. Thanks to generous sponsorship, the raffle proved to be a great success with a fantastic array of prizes ranging from a £250 Moloh Clothing voucher to an hours tattoo time with BeOutspoken, designed by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen himself! The bring and buy plant sale was well supported too with a glorious selection of botanical delights. Musicians entertained guests at the party; talented young guitarist and singer Skinny River set the scene with his acoustic renditions; pagan gothic rock band Inkubus Sukkubus led by Cotswold Life's funky deputy editor Candia McCormack, played a selection of their lighter original fairy festival music. This was followed by a delightful original performance by the young Hermione Llewelyn-Bowen (Little Bo) playing some of her original compositions and popular covers, supported by Emma Fuchs.

Dr Dawn Harper and David Miller gave thought provoking speeches.

The Secret Garden Sale on Saturday had a good selection of stylish stalls in glorious surroundings. Unfortunately, due to the extreme hot weather there were not as many attendees as expected but a delightful time was had by all.
£2,574.67 was raised for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

In addition Mike Naylor, president of the Severn Vale Rotary Club, handed over a further cheque of £1,000 to the charity. He has been a staunch supporter of Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer since his wife Jacky was touched by this hideous disease and which sadly took the life of her daughter recently.

♥ Huge thanks to all our generous supporters. ♥
